About > Owners

Restaurant owners Edward and Corinna Shen have been in the restaurant and seafood business since 1976. Edward’s training and skills lie in restaurant management and Chinese food/seafood recipe development, whilst Corinna specialized in running a very successful wholesale seafood supplying business in Seattle prior to joining Edward in managing Seven Seas. Their combined knowledge of Chinese food/seafood and dedication to constantly seeking/ creating new recipes and fine-quality ingredients has earned them the recognition as highly respected food connoisseurs in the Washington D.C area. They have been invited to speak at important forums and banquets hosted by institutions and organizationslike the Smithsonian, University of Maryland, Taipei Economic and Cultural Representative Office and East Coast Live, to name a few.

Edward and Corinna believe in excellent service and hospitality with a personal touch. They take the effort to remember the names (or at least faces) of their regular customers and spend time getting to know them on a personal basis, a practice that they encourage their servers to use and this sets them apart from many other restaurants of the same level. Seven Seas has played host to many international and local group business meetings and luncheons/dinners in honor of a respected guest. Amongst the many who have experienced the hospitality and fine food at Seven Seas are actors Robin Williams and Bill Cosby, former U.S senator Tom Daschle and current governor of Maryland, Martin O’ Malley.

Aside from running the restaurant, Edward and Corinna are involved in activities concerning local community issues as well as non-profit organizations. As strong supporters of political activism, they have organized fund-raising gatherings at Seven Seas for candidates they support, the latest being the new governor of Maryland, Martin O’ Malley. Recognized as exemplary business professionals in the Chinese community of Rockville, both Edward and Corinna are board members of the Chinese Culture and Community Service Center (CCACC), the largest Chinese grass roots organization in the D.C area that aims to support, promote, and promote understanding of the Chinese community in this area. Corinna also plays an active role in the International Leadership Foundation (ILF), Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce of Greater Washington (TCCGW) and Center for Asia-America Cultural and Educational Exchanges (CAACEE).
