When Seven Seas opened in 1987, the general perception was that Chinese food consisted mainly of dishes like General Tso’s chicken and spring rolls. Owners Edward and Corinna Shen were eager to change that image and introduce authentic Chinese cuisine.

One of the very first and best fresh Chinese seafood restaurants in the Washington Metropolitan area, our restaurant has been a hidden treasure in Rockville since 1987.

The restaurant specializes in award-winning, authentic seafood dishes that have earned us a reputation as one of the finest seafood restaurants. Seven Seas takes pride in serving live catch purchased from reputable suppliers. We lay claim to serving the freshest seafood in Rockville, as the catch is stored in our in-house marine tanks right until a guest orders them. From flavorful braised tilapia with garlic to a sumptuous lobster dinner with ginger and scallion, nothing enhances these house specialties like preparing them with fresh ingredients.

*It is a custom in fine-dining Chinese restaurants for guests to be shown live seafood as proof of freshness before cooking the meal. But rest assured, you can opt to skip this step.

Seven Seas is also known for offering Old World Chinese fare at reasonable prices. Our menu is unique because we incorporate Chinese food from different regional influences. Using Mandarin wok stir-frying methods, our talented chefs can whip up dishes that will please your palate - whether it is the classic American Chinese General Tso’s, the mild, fresh flavors of Cantonese favorites, Taiwanese chafing dishes, the famously fiery Szechuan peppers or the spicy Hunan style.

Seven Seas has been a forerunner in Chinese cuisine, constantly finding new ways to improve its offerings. Our unique crustacean tanks have won over our customers, as well as food critics from Zagat, the Washington Post and the Washingtonian. Incidentally, our large tanks have become a part of the Seven Seas dining experience, a delight to all guests, as is our laughing lucky Buddha statue. The restaurant was also one of the first Chinese restaurants to incorporate a sushi bar as part of its services.

Our restaurant is highly supportive of healthy eating, so we are very flexible about our cooking methods. If you prefer to have less oil, salt or MSG, substitute dark meat for white meat, or have your food steamed with sauce on the side, make sure to let your server know so that. In line with our healthy eating campaign, we have a special menu that makes use of Chinese herbs that not only enhances your food but gives you some essential nutrients. More information on specific Chinese herbs can be found in the 'Specialties'section of the website.

Come dine-in with us soon for the ultimate Seven Seas experience! We look forward to seeing you soon!
